Experimenting with carrying gear into the woods. The goal was to find something traditional in styling, but light and maneuverable. It had to have some flexibility to add more gear as needed, also.
I came up with a design for a traditional haversack with some additional straps and tie down points to carry a tarp and wool blanket. A haversack was a bag commonly used by frontiersman to carry the bare essentials out into the field. It contains the 5 Cs of survivability: cutting tool (axe), container (haversack, steel bottle and several pouches), cordage, a means of combustion aka fire (lighter, tinder, fero rod), and a cover (military poncho, tarp, wool blanket). It is minimal kit with even a few redundancies for comfort. It gives you a lot of options. I will do a more detailed video on the gear later, on how it is carried and how its used. Essentially with this equipment, you should be able to survive 1-3 days in the wilderness with relative ease. Adding a means of getting game like some small traps and pocket fishing kit, and the time in the woods with just this gear could be extended quite a while longer.
