The AMAZING 2023 Kia Sportage! Perfect Compact SUV!
With its bold styling, the 2023 Kia Sportage separates itself from the never-ending list of compact crossovers. The exterior design of the 5th-gen Kia Sportage makes it almost entirely unrecognizable from its predecessor. A massive touchscreen gives the interior a much more modern look. That tech and other updates should help the 2023 Kia Sportage better compete in a segment that's largely left the last-gen model behind. Curious about the Sportage but want something more efficient? Then keep on watching this video to find out all about it.
The Sportage lineup is Kia's compact crossover SUV. Its main competitors are the best-selling models in the class, the Nissan Rogue, the Honda CR-V, and Toyota RAV4. But about every automaker has a compact SUV in its lineup, and so it's no wonder the Kia Sportage can get lost in the shuffle for many potential buyers.
Thanks to a complete redesign which dramatically improves everything about the new model, the all new 2023 Kia Sportage is more likely to attract attention. Some of its highlights include comfortable seating in a roomier interior, some legit off-road capabilities, expanded cargo capacity, and a comprehensive collection of the latest tech features.
The Sportage's bold new exterior design is different from other Kias and to every other compact SUV on the market. A wide black grille is a bolder reinterpretation of Kia's signature front end design. The bugeye headlights of the previous Sportage model are replaced with sleeker units that integrate with the grille.
Is the design a bit busy? Perhaps. But in a competitive segment dominated by Subaru, Honda, and Nissan, the Sportage needs to get noticed. The sleek daytime running lights shouldn't go unnoticed. Moving to the back, there are blacked-out roof pillars, giving off sporty vibes that will match the driving experience. New taillights are connected by a thin strip, a design that's very much in vogue right now.
The all new 2023 Kia Sportage's default powertrain is said to be around 187 horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder which mates to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Also, the hybrid variant mixes a turbocharged 1.6-liter four with a single electric motor which makes a combined power of 226 horsepower. Either the powertrain can be paired with front- or all-wheel drive.
Also, there's an all-wheel-drive-only plug-in hybrid which shares its gas engine with the regular hybrid but at the same time it adds a more powerful electric motor and a much bigger battery pack. Car experts sampled both the base four-cylinder and the hybrid powertrain during the car expert's test drive and they were more satisfied with it.
The Sportage's hybrid extra power and low-end push from the electric motor to make it feel much more responsive. When car experts tested the plug-in hybrid model, it hit 60 mph in a respectable 6.9 seconds at its test track.
The new 2023 Kia Sportage rides on a new platform with a longer wheelbase, and also the ride comfort is improved as a result. Also, the introduction of rugged-looking trims like the X-Line gives the compact ute an off-road aesthetic, but the X-Pro has some equipment to help tackle the rough stuff. It also rides on black 17-inch rims and all-terrain tires and it even features a selection of drive modes.
According to the EPA, the PHEV model of the new Sportage can go 34 miles on electricity alone before the gasoline engine which will need to fire up to keep the Kia Sportage moving. It uses the same setup as the plug-in hybrid variant of the new Hyundai Tucson and it sports a 13.8-kWh battery pack and 261 combined horsepower.
The all new 2023 Sportage with the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder is rated for 25 mpg city and 32 mpg highway when equipped with front-wheel drive; all-wheel drive models are rated for 23 mpg in the city and around 28 mpg on the highway by the EPA. The front-drive hybrid is rated for up to 42 mpg city and 44 mpg highway. The EPA has rated the plug-in-hybrid model for 36 mpg in the city as well as 35 mpg on the highway. An all-wheel-drive Sportage Hybrid achieved 31 mpg, on its 75-mph fuel-economy route, which is 7 mpg short of its EPA rating.
Kia offers a shockingly amazing seven trim levels on the Sportage: LX, SX, EX, SX-Prestige, and the new X-Line, X-Pro, and X-Pro Prestige. The new trims aim to deliver rugged looks or capability, or both.
X-Line models focus on cosmetic upgrades, including tougher-looking front and rear bumpers, raised roof rack rails, gloss black accents, and unique 19-inch wheels. X-Pro models kick things up a notch with all-terrain tires and 17-inch black off-road wheels, as well as multi-terrain drive modes.
