With a month left for the Karnataka Assembly election, major political parties ramped up their preparations and a few have issued lists of candidates. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to release its first list of candidates today and speculations are rife that the saffron party may drop a few sitting MLAs. The party met on Sunday and sources claim it has decided on three names for each seat. Congress has released two lists of 166 candidates and the names for the remaining seats are likely to be discussed today in Delhi. Congress's DK Shivakumar and senior leader Siddaramaiah will be present at the meeting. BJP leader BS Yediyurappa said the party's first list will contain 170 to 180 names. Poll preparations are underway against the tussle between the ruling BJP and the Opposition over the entry of Amul into the Karnataka market. Polls for the 224-seat Assembly will be held in a single phase on May 10, 2023. The results of the election will be announced on May 13, 2023.
