The Kenyan government is sending police troops to curb gang violence in Haiti. How absurd! Sending Kenyan policemen who are neither trained to fight gangs nor speak the languages of Haitian people will lead to loss of lives. Police Lives Matter! This police intervention would undermine the sovereignty of the Republic of Haiti. Furthermore, Kenya has not been a leader in curbing insecurity in its own homeland, given the many lives lost to armed banditry and terrorist attacks in the region. Additionally, Kenya’s neighboring countries within the African continent, who are facing wars and coups, could use this police help. Haiti’s neighbors in North America are in a better position to curb the violence in their continent. Sending troops to Haiti, will leave Kenya very vulnerable to attacks from terrorist groups like Al-Shabaab. Afribundance condemns this police interference and intervention. The international community should send the trained United Nations peacekeeping troops, and hold them accountable for violating international humanitarian and human rights law.
