Captured at Abbey Road Studios' Studio Two, this film features the Chandler Limited EMI / Abbey Road Studios TG Microphone — set to one of its 30 sounds — compared to an historic U47 tube microphone on the iconic Challen piano from the Beatles period.
The TG Microphone is a FET microphone, with an onboard EMI mastering console "Tape Equalizer," — a Curve Bender tone control — and a dedicated power supply. The Tape EQ isn't a tape emulator, however, was employed to correctly playback tapes recorded to differing standards, on machines calibrated to the opposite spec., without having to recalibrate the tape machine. The original mastering console tape equalizer curves have been modified for recording sources.
The signal chain was: each microphone recorded through 1081 preamps into converters at 96 kHz, 24 bit, and without additional processing.
Special thanks to the amazing Abbey Road Studios engineer Stefano Civetta for his original composition and piano performance.
