Volume profiles tell you how much trading volume happened at a specific price. Normal volume indicators tell you how much trading volume happened over a period of time. That's the key difference between the two. In this video, we will walk your the difference between volume and volume profiles, why it's important, and how you can use these unique volume tools.
The key to getting started is understanding that you can view price and volume on a totally different scale than what most people look at it. You can see price and volume based on the price levels that attracted the most trading volume. That's what volume profiles tell you.
On TradingView, you have four volume profiles to pick from:
Visible Range
Session Volume
Session Volume HD
Fixed Range
Each of these is unique in their own way and will help you analyze markets better depending on what you need to find or research.
Visible Range shows how much trading volume occurred at each specific price based on the chart you're looking it.
Session Volume shows how much trading volume occurred at each price within a single session of trading. Session volume shows a volume profile individual sessions.
Session Volume HD is the same as Session Volume except that it is high definition. Meaning it dynamically adjusts to show you more or less data depending on your zoom. If you have multiple monitors or use the multi-chart layout, Session Volume HD can be a huge help.
Fixed Range is how you select any two points on the chart and instantly analyze price and volume for that region. Pick two points and see what prices attracted the most trading volume.
