THE PURPOSE of the Empowerment & Engagement Coalition (EEC) is to UNITE, CONNECT, and EMPOWER college-bound African American males in grades 7 – 12 in private and independent schools throughout the Greater Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. Our inaugural event was inspired by a desire of local educators to harness the energy, vitality, and spirit of this generation of African American males, specifically addressing the vacuum of opportunities for our young men to gather, connect, and share their stories.
OUR MISSION is to provide a safe space for our young man to dialogue with each other about their daily experiences and to give them an opportunity to rediscover and in some cases discover for the first time the unique power, enriching energy, and undeniable diversity that emerges from the gathering of African American males in one place. Further, we seek to offer opportunities for our young man to practice self-empowerment and self-identity, counteracting the constant barrage of negative images and messages which they are undoubtedly bombarded with in their daily lives.
