The pocket parks along city streets, commercial blocks or residential complexes in China's mega metropolis Shanghai have provided rare experience in greens for its residents and outsiders.

Yu Jinlong is a landscape designer who designed the four pocket parks near the city’s Suzhou River.

"Pocket park is a very small-sized green land as if you can hide it in a pocket. It has the nature of a park with shared functions," Yu explained.

He said designing pocket parks remains his favorite work.

"Its location is very special. It is located at the intersection of the Huangpu River and the Suzhou River. I hope it can become a dream living room for all, whether they are tourists from all over the country or just residents living nearby," he said.

These parks utilize existing flora, with added plants for diversity and color.

For local residents and visitors of the city, pocket parks provide a space for recreation, enjoyment and an opportunity to appreciate some greenery in the city.

"The place is prettier than before. It is such a pleasant thing to walk on the Waibaidu Bridge along the Suzhou River," a visitors said.

"It is fair to say that in the past two years, the surrounding environment, especially its greening and the pedestrian path, has been built in accordance with the people's wishes. It has created a very good environment for the people. It is such a very good place," a resident said.

"We live nearby. It takes only five minutes for me to walk here and have a rest in these greens. It has everything, flowers and trees. We visit the place everyday," said another resident.

Shanghai started the construction of pocket parks in 2016 as authorities look to enhance the city's living environment.

By far, Shanghai has built over 200 such parks.

"Our starting point was really set in consideration of our people. We are very clear whom this Greenland and this road will serve. When we patrol here, some residents would come and say to us that this park is beautiful, or these flowers are pretty. We get the most direct feelings, and feel very satisfied," said He Yizhi, director of the department of planning and construction of the Landscaping Bureau of Shanghai's Hongkou District.

隨著當局希望改善上海的居住環境，上海於2016年開始建設小型公園。

到目前為止，上海已經建立了200多個這樣的公園。
