Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 BMW X5, we're gonna be doing a test fit on the Thule aero blade edge roof rack system. We're gonna be using part numbers TH7603-TH7603 for the aluminum silver cross bars. You can also get those in black with part number TH7603B-TH7603B. Now we'll also be using the roof rack fit kit, and that's gonna be part number THKIT4023.This Thule roof rack system's gonna allow you to carry roof mounted accessories on your BMW X5, things like bike racks, cargo carriers, cargo boxes, and more. The cross bars offer about 37 1/2 inches of usable space and they have the aero blade edge design. What that means is the cross bars are aerodynamic.
They're gonna be a lot quieter than your traditional round or square bars. The edge design means that it sits flush with your BMW X5's roof, whereas some other roof racks may have a bar overhang design which the bars can extend out as far as your side mirrors. Both styles of roof rack systems are great; the overhang design is gonna allow you to maximize your accessory capacity. Or if you don't have that many accessories, the edge design is gonna be for you. It will also give you more of that low profile factory look. It's gonna work with your standard clamp on accessories as well as your T-slot accessories.
You'll simply trim that rubber strip around your gear and then replace it. With the cover removed, you can see that it hides and protects all of our hardware. That way it's gonna deter anyone from removing it from our flush mounted rails. If you'd like to add more security, you can pick up some Thule locking cores with part number TH544. That's gonna allow you to punch out the plastic core on each one of your covers, replace it with a metal core, and then you can lock all of them with the same key system. The cross bars are mounted to your flush mounted rails with the Thule fit kit.
The nice thing about the clamps is they're specifically designed to fit your flush mounted rails on your X5. They are rubber coated so you don't have to worry about them harming or scratching those flush mounted rails. This roof rack system has a weight capacity of 165 pounds. You will wanna check with your X5's owner's manual to see if your roof can support that much weight. Now we'll give you some clearance measurements. From the top of the roof to the underside of the bar is about 2 1/4 inches.
From the top of the roof to the top of the bar is about 3 1/2 inches. With the aero blade edge roof rack system in place, I'd like to point out that we still have use of our sunroof. As you can see, we can raise it up and we can even open it up and there's not gonna be any issues. Now that we've gone over the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get them installed. I've already got the front cross bar installed on the flush mount rails of my BMW. The rear one installs the same way. We just need to be sure we're within 24 to 32 inches apart, center on center. Let's go ahead and do the rear one together. I've got one side ready to go. Everything's loosely installed. Lets do the other side together.First thing we need to do is make sure our adjustable foot is loose on our cross bar, which is it. If yours is tightened down, just loosen up the bolt here with your included tool. Don't worry about having to take it out all the way; just loosen it up until you've got all that play. The next thing we need to do is be sure the rod here on the inside, this single hole is lined up with this hole right here on the bracket. You can see we've got the double thread holes on the outside, so what we can do is take our included tool and rotate that around until that single bolt is visible. Then we can take the clamp from our bracket. Now it comes preassembled, which makes it extremely easy. We just need to thread the bolt here into the hole that we just lined up. Let's raise it up and get that started. Now if you need to, you can use your tool. It's easier to get that started. But don't worry about tightening it down all the way; just make sure it's
