Remember Mama Bearyl and the Boo Bears?
I just came across this footage of Boo & Boo Boo playing with the swing in the White Garden last year. I had started to put this little video together last autumn to share but had forgotten to complete the work. After rediscovering the footage, I figured I might as well finish it so you can see these few sweet moments for yourselves.
I just love it when the bears pause in my gardens long enough to give us all a happy glimpse. fwiw, I haven’t seen Bearyl this year yet. (Although I have seen Blossom quite a few times.) Ditto for Bertha aka Mama Darryl. (Mama of The Darryls.) I haven’t seen her this year, either. *sigh*. I really, really hope we get to see Mama Darryl again, someday. She is the best and most playful Mama Bear we’ve ever seen. Thankfully Miss Belle is rather playful, too, so her antics help take the sting out of missing Mama Darryl. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen little Boo at least once this year - as a yearling. That has helped my heart feel a little better.
As many of you know, the boy yearlings almost always end up leaving the area where they’re born, as they need to strike out and stake their own territory. Mama Bears usually allow their girl yearlings to share some of the same territory. That probably explains why I’ve been seeing so much of “Beanie” - one of the girl yearlings from Blossom’s litter last year.
It is often very hard to tell bears apart, but I always try to find identifying features to help differentiate the bears from one another. I keep all sorts of footage for my archives for this purpose - nothing that’s worth sharing on this channel, nothing particularly interesting - but footage that’s clear enough that it can help me track the whereabouts of certain bears, and allows me to witness them as they grow and age and build families of their own. That scar on Boo’s arm can be a great identifying mark for future reference. Once I see that residual scar on a female yearling, I’ll feel comfortable saying, for sure, that “Boo was here.”
