New research has uncovered that 27 of the US's universities have received an astounding $700 million from major oil and gas companies from 2010-2020. Many of these institutions, like Stanford, UC Berkeley, and MIT, are world-renowned research institutes and these donations have skewed the research they produce in support of fossil fuels. While some universities have fully divested from fossil fuels following student protests, schools like UC Berkeley and others continue to take money from the fossil fuel industry, leading some students to sue.
