Today our Wine-Director, David Allen MW, shares a guilty secret in admitting to loving the rich hedonistic style of wines made by the late, great, Denis Durantou. Durantou was the owner of Château L'Église-Clinet is a small, producer in Pomerol, believed by some to produce wines to rival the best in Pomerol.
The wine David is tasting is a great value alternative to L'Église-Clinet, La Chenade Lalande de Pomerol 2019. La Chenade is the second wine of Chateau Les Cruzelles, an estate located 1 kilometer north of L'Église-Clinet, just across the boundary in the neighboring Lalande de Pomerol appellation.
The late, highly lauded winemaker Denis Durantou oversaw this, his last vintage. Today his daughters, Constance and Noëmie have taken over the running of their family's estates.
