I had been replacing the handle on the Skillsaw Model 77 and mentioned that I liked the reusable strain relief and wondered if there was a way to do it on other cords.

Yes, the flex relief can be removed from a cord onto which it is molded to be used again. :)

Gotahvcls I would be interested in seeing how it is done.

hi Old Snee, an older guy showed me when I worked in a repair shop for floor scrubbers, polishers, carpet extraction etc. These machines pulled heavy amperage requiring quite stout cords. I was shown to drill out the rubber cord casing from the strain relief using a drill press. Leave the drill press run slowly while feeding the strain relief upwards holding it WITH A RAG, not using gloves! OSHA would not be impressed. Use a rag as it can pull away leaving your hands safely free in case of the bit binding the cloth. A glove will pull you into the drill in the worst case. Anyway, it works ok, if not hot to hold. Then feed your cord through a soaped up and heated relief. I wish I had a camera to show you the way it was shown to me. Now, I need a relief for a skilsaw I inherited from a dumpster with a missing cord and broken handle. I'll glue the handle up to work. Do you have a spare bad cord with a good relief? :) Regards, jc, Oregon

gotahvcls Thanks for the great idea. Now that you have me thinking I have several 1/4" drill motors that need new cords. I was going to go a different way. I was trying to come up with some compound that I could mold a new one out of to attach to the cord. Going further, I wonder if I could bore out the relief with a brace or breast drill? All kinds of possibilities are coming out. Thanks for sharing.
