When farmers are making fungicide application decisions, they want to maximize their investment to help achieve the highest yields possible. In this video, Pioneer Field Agronomist Emily Huber has tips for farmers looking to make optimal management decisions when it comes to their fungicide application in soybeans. When measuring soybean yield, farmers look at the number of pods per plant, the number of seeds within the pod, and the seed size within the pod. To maximize these three factors, the goal is to keep your soybeans as healthy as possible for as long as possible, and this is where a fungicide application can help. Timing your fungicide application is crucial to keeping your soybeans healthy throughout the growing season, so making your application during the R3 growth stage is important to protect the pods for as long as possible to maximize yield. Application during this time will help protect soybeans from diseases like frog eye leaf spot or brown spot that could reduce yield. Over many years of Pioneer on-farm trials, the data has shown applying a foliar fungicide application gives farmers an average yield advantage of 2.4 bushels per acre.
