February is Black History Month. To commemorate this month, we are posting two videos that shine a light on two African American self-advocates: Marquis Garner and Cindy Bentley. In this video Cindy sits down with Marquis to talk about their experiences as people of color. A second video featuring an interview with Cindy on her book Spirit of a Champion will be released in the coming weeks.
Here are some questions to think about after watching this video.
- What does race mean to you?
- How does your race impact you on a day to day basis?
- What have you done when you have witnessed a racist act? Did you say something? Would you say something in the future?
- Marquis talks about some of his experiences with racist thinking. Can you think of a time when you experienced something similar? Or maybe you behaved in a racist way? Now that you have heard Marquis tell his story, will it change your behavior in the future?
