This is the 147th anniversary of the death of Greyfriars Bobby. Bobby was the faithful pet of policeman John Gray. He guarded Gray's grave for 14 years after he died. The Lord Provost paid for his dog licence and he got a daily meal from a nearby cafe. The Dogs Trust and the City of Edinburgh Council organised the event along with the One O'Clock Gun Association. The dog took the sound of the gun as his cue to go for lunch. Children from George Heriot's School laid a wreath and piper Jennifer Hutcheon played her own specially composed tune Tribute to Greyfriars Bobby.
