As the Senate continues to work on a $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill for roads, bridges, water and broadband, Republican Senators are warning about what's next: a Democrat-backed $3.5 trillion measure they say is packed with far-left political priorities to be funded by taxpayers. Democrats say it would be paid for by new taxes on corporations and wealthy Americans. Republicans call the plan "reckless" and fear the middle class will bear the brunt with new taxes. Minority Leader, Senator Mitch McConnell says it's "absolutely the worst possible thing we could be doing for the country right now. Playing Russian roulette with our economy." Senators Rick Scott and John Kennedy also spoke out against the bill. Specific details on the Human Infrastructure Bill are still being worked out, but right now it includes free 2 year community college for most Americans, free universal pre-k schooling for 3 and 4 year olds, Medicare to be expanded to include dental, vision and hearing, and immigration reform, including citizenship for some undocumented migrants. Some progressives believe the bill's price is too low and want spending in the $6 trillion range, while other Democrats view this multi-trillion dollar package as a necessity.
