4. SOUNDBITE (English) Ali Babacan, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister:
"For Syria there has to be a strong international united effort. We have been working very closely with the Arab League. We have been working very closely with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. We have been working closely with the EU, with NATO. But the UN is the organisation that has the widest umbrella so to say, which has the international legitimacy and enforcement power. So we would love to see a UN resolution, but so far there has not been a consensus among the P5 (permanent members of UN security council)."
Question: Would Turkey support an Arab League solution?
"It depends on the context. It depends what we mean by 'solutions'. Without looking at the detail, we don't want to label solutions this way or another way."

STORYLINE:
Turkey gave a lukewarm response Friday to the latest proposal to end the civil war in Syria - Arab League peacekeepers backed by the United Nations.
The Arab League solution was floated a day earlier Israeli president Shimon Peres at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
But Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan, who's also in Davos, said that although Turkey was working closely with the Arab League and other organisations,
what was needed was a UN resolution supported by all five members of the Security Council.
That's something that's so far proved elusive due to opposition from Russia and China.
Asked specifically if Turkey would support such an Arab League solution, Babacan said it depended on the context.
