Mnangagwa and Chamisa Attend Duma Boko's Inauguration in Botswana. Duma Boko was inaugurated as Botswana's new president on November 8, 2024, in front of a large audience, with both Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa and opposition leader Nelson Chamisa in attendance.
After 12 years in opposition, Boko's Umbrella for Democratic Change ended the Botswana Democratic Party’s 58-year rule by winning 36 out of 61 parliamentary seats in the October 30 elections, denying former President Mokgweetsi Masisi a second term.
Boko made a point to invite leaders of various regional opposition parties with whom he had formed alliances, including Chamisa and Julius Malema, the leader of South Africa's Economic Freedom Fighters.
During the inauguration's live coverage, Botswana state TV interviewed Chamisa, who lost a contentious election to Mnangagwa in August 2023. His former party, the Citizens Coalition for Change, which he has since left, accused Mnangagwa's ZANU-PF of electoral fraud.
