Water, food and energy form a nexus at the heart of sustainable development. How are they interacting with each other and affecting each other?
In this video, researcher Youssef Almulla explains what's the water–energy–food nexus approach, his importance in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), and the applications of this framework in the Mediterranean region.
He was interviewed during his participation as a guest lecturer in CIHEAM Zaragoza’s International Master in Sustainable Water Management and Governance in Natural and Agricultural Environments.
Youssef Almulla is a researcher and Ph.D. candidate at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm (Sweeden). His research area focusses on implementing the Climate, Land-use, Energy and Water strategies (CLEWs) to inform and motivate transboundary cooperation as well as to achieve sustainable energy and water management.
Under the United Nations Economics Commission for Europe (UNECE) nexus framework, he worked on the development of the nexus assessment for the Drina River Basin and the North Western Sahara Aquifer System (NWSAS). He is also contributing to the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) project in collaboration with Stockholm Environmental Institute (SEI) to support the implementation of the 2030 agenda in the NENA region countries.
CIHEAM Zaragoza thanks researcher Youssef Almulla for his collaboration in this video.
