OCT 2023 EDIT: Atom2 has had some upadates since I made this video. Some of the main ones:
-supports drag and drop
- Infinite undo
- Is now MPE compatible! (Atom can record, import and export MPE MIDI. Note that you cannot overdub mpe midi when making overdubbed midi loops. Well, you can, but the results will be messy.
- Has various configuration styles like ‘sausage fingers’, ‘larger controls’ etc
- each instance can now sequence multiple channels, and there is a theme called ‘MIDI channel colours’ which is very useful for this.
- Double tap apple pencil to switch between note entry and note slection
- Can switch patterns with midi messages of various kinds
- Had various updates to tighten Drambo integration
- Midi Export exports patterns on separate channels
- Has far more available scale modes than at launch
- User manual is accessible from an AUv3 instance’s app menu
-Notes can be previewed on the piano roll keyboard by tapping
- Midi files automatically set clip length etc when imported
See the Appstore version history for full details
Victor Porof has spent about a year working on this update to Atom, and this is by far the most hotly anticipated iOS app of 2021 in any category. This is probably the most full-featured piano roll & midi sequencer on iOS bar none. But it is also a powerful clip launcher with deep integration with AUM and with controllers like the Launchpad and others. You can even script it to customize the interface or controller functionality to suit your needs. For people using hosts like AUM, which lacks a native piano roll, this will be a game changer, but even those using more traditional daws may want to use Atom 2 instead of their daws own piano roll. Host compatibility details can be found below, read carefully to check if your daw is supported.
This review video is a highly detailed walkthrough demo of almost all the main features and will show you why the app is so powerful. After watching this tutorial you will have a very good idea of how to use the app. You will also know clearly what is currently missing from the app and what is planned to be added. Victor, the dev, will join us in the live chat, so come in and ask him your Qs and show him some love for a year of hard work on this.

Even better, if you are a regular viewer of the channel, it would be fantastic if you made a donation from time to time. The amount of work involved in making videos like this is incredible, and yet YouTube pays absolutely peanuts. No YouTuber in the iOS Music space is receiving anywhere near the remuneration they deserve from youtube because a) the niche is too small and b) many tech savvy viewers watch behind an adblocker, which - unless balanced by occassional donations - is complete exploitation of our labour.
