The ocean is an unforgiving place and there are a lot of really good reasons to remove humans from the equation. Pierce Nichols and a dedicated team of hackers want to do just that with their Hackerboat project. The ultimate goal is to develop a robot boat which can circumnavigate the globe without intervention. But along the way they hope to also develop a swarm of robots which can be leverages for search/rescue as well as reasearch projects over large swaths of the sea.
