After the hike we decided to visit the key tourist sites in the area. We started with Geghard Monastery, a UNESCO site dating back to the 4th century. Following we visited Garni where the Garni Temple is the best-known structure and symbol of pre-Christian Armenia (it dates to the 1st century and probably was a temple to the sun god Mihr). Right next door is Garni Gorge. Part of Garni Gorge is known as “Symphony of Stones”, as the cliff walls are well-preserved basalt columns. Following all these very touristy activities we drove to the Azat Reservoir where there are abundant camp spots overlooking the water.
