Spirit Airlines Says "GOODBYE" to Airbus A320! Here's Why
In a challenging aviation market, Spirit Airlines has recently made a notable move. Contrary to many airlines that are pouring millions of dollars into buying new, modern aircraft, this airline has gone against the trend by deciding to sell a large number of its Airbus aircraft. Is this decision a strategic move for the airline to adapt to the new situation, or is it a sign that the airline is facing financial difficulties? Let’s find out in today’s episode!
What plane did they sell?
Popular US low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines has agreed to sell 23 Airbus planes for 519 million dollars to raise cash as it looks set to file for bankruptcy. The proceeds, along with the cancellation of debt on the planes, will boost Spirit Airlines’ liquidity, or ability to convert assets into cash, by about 225 million dollars by the end of 20 25.

The airline said GA Telesis, a company specializing in aviation aftermarket services including parts sales, aircraft maintenance and aviation finance, has purchased the planes. The transaction is expected to be completed by February next year.
So what aircraft have been sold? GA Telesis also made official announcements about this acquisition. The company announced it has signed a definitive purchase agreement and secured the necessary corporate approvals to acquire 23 used Airbus A3 20 Ceo and A3 21 Ceo aircraft from Spirit Airlines. The aircraft, powered by V 2527 A5 and V 2533 A5 Select-One jet engines, were manufactured between 20 14 and 20 19, marking the company’s largest-ever acquisition of non-leased aircraft of similar vintages.

This strategic acquisition significantly bolsters GA Telesis’ fleet portfolio, enhancing its ability to meet increasing global demand for narrow-body aircraft. The company will market these aircraft to its extensive global customer base for continued commercial airline operations.
“We are thrilled to announce this significant acquisition, which adds a large number of highly sought-after Airbus A3 20 Ceo and A3 21 Ceo aircraft to our portfolio,” said Marc Cho, President of GA Telesis LIFT Group. “The A3 20 Ceo family of aircraft is renowned for its efficiency, performance, and reliability, making it an attractive option for airlines across the world. We are confident these aircraft will provide significant value to our customers as they continue their operations.”
