Nabegataki is one of Japan's most beautiful waterfalls - 10m high and 20m wide. And still mostly secret from the growing tourist crowds.
Nabegataki Falls is over 90,000 years old and was created by a massive eruption of Mt Aso, one of Japan's most famous live volcanoes. One of the most striking features of Nabegataki is that you can actually walk behind the falls. Japanese call it Uraminotaki (裏見の滝), and it is quite rare.
Open 9AM-5PM, Entrance fee tickets are 300 yen per person, no refunds.
***
NB: Due to its growing popularity, seeing Nabegataki Falls since Nov. 2021 is by advance reservation only. You can buy tickets on their website (same day OK if available).

There is no train access to Nabegataki Falls - access is by far easiest by car.
Another great sight nearby is the Daikanbo Lookout, and well worth seeing as well:
