Capturing excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere of the cabin of a crew vehicle is critical to maintaining human health on long duration missions. Additionally, any way of capturing and re-using oxygen is helpful in creating an optimal environment for the crew. Researchers at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center are using a Bosch reactor system to generate water and elemental carbon. The carbon, in conjunction with other materials, is being tested as a material for 3D printing.
