Not everyone knows that Pablo Picasso was born in Málaga. The Museo Picasso Málaga was created in response to Pablo Picassos desire for his work to be seen in the city where he was born in 1881. The initial idea for the museum arose in 1953, from the contacts that took place between Pablo Picasso and the Provincial Delegate for Fine Arts in Málaga.
In this video, the new artistic director of the museum, José Lebrero Stals, explains why it took 30 years until a museum with his work was realized in his home town. He also talks about the origins of the permanent collection of the museum, the museums departments and his future plans. As he points out, the museum will have a close look at the influence Pablo Picasso still has on contemporary artists.
