This song titled Kol Nidre (All Vows) is deeply meaningful in Judaism. It is sung on Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement). It is believed to have been written in times of heavy persecution when Jews were forced to convert or die. The date or author are not known but it has been around since 589-1038 CE and probably earlier. Many Jews did convert to Christinanity or Islam, to save theirs and their family’s lives. The lyrics of Kol Nidre are a legal document of sorts which is an exemption from those vows of conversion. The Aramaic text, in English:
All vows, and self imposed prohibitions, and oaths, and consecrations, and restrictions and interdictions and synonymous terms, that we may vow, or swear, or consecrate, or prohibit upon ourselves, •from the previous Day of Atonement until this Day of Atonement and from this Day of Atonement until the next Day of Atonement that will come for our benefit. Regarding all of them, we repudiate them. All of them are undone, abandoned, cancelled, null and void, not in force, and not in effect. Our vows are no longer vows, and our prohibitions are no longer prohibitions, and our oaths are no longer oaths.
