The National - Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks – U.C. Berkeley, Live, 9-25-18, 1st row, Greek Theatre. Matt Berninger: This (CD) better be 'Let It Be' or 'Nevermind' dude. lol
Other Tidbits:
2nd night of back-to-back shows! The National was originally scheduled to perform 2 shows in Berkeley a year ago in October (with Daughter as the opener), but they were forced to postpone the dates due to the hazardous air quality caused by the North Bay fires in 2017. Big Thief is the opener for the 1st show and Cat Power for the 2nd show.
And if you want, (too seriously)
To see me cry. (don't swallow the cap)
Play "Let It Be" (pat yourself on the back)
Or "Nevermind". (too seriously)
Matt (after being handed a CD ~4:30): This better be 'Let It Be' or 'Nevermind' dude... What is it? It doesn't look like either of those two records. :P OK, thanks! I appreciate that! 'Red River'!
'Red River' is actually the title of the song by Indiana Bradley ([ Ссылка ]). Later in the show, Berninger took the CD out of his back pocket and danced with it! (~1:15 during 'Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks')
Berninger: Scott and I once went to a Guided By Voices concert, and we threw our CD of Nancy (Matt Berninger and Scott Devendorf's previous band) into Bob Pollard's cooler and hoping that we'd hear a response... We did NOT! lol
We also mailed it to Matador (Records), and they told us that we would never be a Matador band. Now we are motherfu*kers! lol I love Matador.
Matt interacted with many of the front row fans during the show, which was nice and fun to see. One fan held up a sign asking him to sing to her, and he later did during the end of 'The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness'!
Another fan held up a sign asking to do a video re-take on his phone, because when Matt took the fan's phone on stage the previous night to film himself singing and dancing, the phone apparently malfunctioned and failed to record anything. So Matt did it again! lol
The band said that they were recording this concert and had originally planned to perform 'Humilation' and 'Karen' for the tapes, but felt they needed more time to practice it.
