Naughty Bear is back!
When all the other bears went to the Paradise Island resort for holiday, Naughty Bear was once again left behind. Or so they thought.
Cuddles is the one who organized this trip and is in charge of checking all the bears in the hotel, so he's the first on Naughty Bear's hit list. There's no requirements for this first hit, just as long as the bastard's dead.
Here's my walkthrough for the downloadable sequel to Naughty Bear, Panic in Paradise. Because they finally got wise and made it so that you can unlock the next target simply by killing the main target of each level with the required method, in these videos I will ONLY focus on getting rid of the other bears in varying ways and then, usually last, kill the main target in whatever way the game wants you to do it. No point or coin collecting.
Panic in Paradise is in many ways much better than the first, but I do have to admit it's got so many flaws it's at times hard to enjoy. Here's my checklist for all the problems I personally have with Panic in Paradise:
- No funny cutscenes. Perhaps only a minor qualm considering it's a downloadable sequel to a game that had very few, very short cutscenes (that I did, however, enjoy immensely)
- No way to adjust brightness and contrast in-game. Some areas in the game are so dark that I honestly can't see inside them even when my TV's brightness and contrast are at max (and then it's just really white)
- The only cutscene so far, the bus ride at the start, can't be viewed again once you've started the first level and the game has saved. Maybe a minor problem because it's such a short and maybe pointless scene, but I hate the idea of cutscenes that can never be watched again when replaying a game
- Not as many different kill animations as was advertised. Each weapon now has several different Ultra Kills but the animations are shared between different weapons so you end up seeing a LOT of repeats even when you try to switch up weapons for variety
- While I do understand that the idea of the game is to gather points and climb up the leaderboards, I would occasionally wish to just turn the point updates and the HUD and the bonus mission info off, especially when recording. A better way to update points would be to show a small text under the point total stating where you got points and not have them pop-up over events
- The game freezes CONSTANTLY and everywhere, forcing you to reset the console. It froze on me TWICE when recording this first short video, and that big of a freezing issue is rather crippling for a game where the idea is to spend a long time on one small level gathering points. Think about it: you spend 45 minutes on one area squeezing every little point you can out of the bears to get to #1 place on the leaderboards, and the game freezes just as you're heading for the exit. I don't have to imagine it, it happened to me and from what I've read online, to a lot of other people as well. The game can also freeze at any time, on result screens, main menu, loathing screens... anywhere. Literally the most a game has ever frozen on me, even worse than unpatched Fallout 3 on PS3
But, nothing so bad that I couldn't find something good as well, and improvements over the first game include
- Better variety in levels, although they do start repeating after 12 kills (still better than the same 4 tiny areas in the first game getting repeated over and over)
- Ability to grab and carry bears to kill locations
- Ability to lure bears with a quieter BOO allows for some fancy tactics
- The bears are no longer as easy to beat up as before. They're faster at charging at you as well as hitting and do much more damage per hit, and even one bear can prove to be a problem in a one on one fight let alone a group of them piling on you all at once, so using stealth in the middle of all the madness has an actual point to it, unlike in the first one where staying in the open was the only profitable tactic
- I like the narrator, Ashley Pannell, in this game
- The secret temples are often pretty funny
- The ability to disguise yourself, not just by unlocking costumes and wearing them before entering a level, but by taking them right from others bears in the levels allows you, or maybe just me(?), to play it through like a Hitman game. This ability with the added need for stealth makes for a far more interesting gameplay than just running around smashing everything
