Bali Jatra literally means a voyage to Bali. It is a festival is held in Odisha, in the city of Cuttack at Gadagadia Ghat of the Mahanadi river, to mark the day when ancient Sadhabas (Oriya mariners) would set sail to distant lands of Bali, Java, Sumatra, Borneo, and Sri Lanka for trade and cultural expansion. To commemorate this, the festival is celebrated every year from the day of Kartika Purnima (full moon day of the month of Kartika) according to the Oriya Calendar.
Bali Yatra is the biggest fair held in the Odisha, which brings modern technology and the traditional craft under one platform. More than 1300 stalls are erected across the upper and lower Bali Jatra grounds selling everything from modern technology, traditional ethnic crafts to petty household articles.
