The department of Social Development, in collaboration with the International Labour Organisation and UN Sustainable Development Goals, are launching a Report on Basic Income support for 18 to 60 year olds.
Economic hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic led to a decline in employment, which saw the country losing a substantial number of formal and informal jobs in 2020.
This prompted a discussion on income support.
Representatives from the South African government, the United Nations Joint SDG Fund in South Africa, Civil Society, Private Sector and Social Grant Beneficiaries will be part of the discussion.
