We add a lot of used coffee grounds to our garden every year. And that includes adding them directly to our garden beds as mulch. Our primary motivation in doing so is to improve soil fertility, but we've always hoped that the grounds were also helping to deter slugs. I say "hoped" because we were never very confident the grounds were having much of an impact on the slugs. Despite all of the grounds, we've still had our fair share of problems with them.
OYR is all about growing a lot of food on a little land using sustainable organic methods, while keeping costs and labor at a minimum. Emphasis is placed on improving soil quality with compost, mulch, and compost tea. No store-bought fertilizers, soil amendments, pesticides, compost activators, etc. are used.
