Since the “work from home” initiative, our “home” is no longer just a home but rather a shared workspace. This led to more stress at home since there is no healthy separation and we tend to work longer hours since it is so accessible and stress levels rise as a result! The thought of not having enough time to exercise adds even more stress to the fire so what do we do about it? At the clinic, we came up with some simple ways to incorporate exercise into your daily routines so that you can continue to perform at your best while keeping stress levels low since research has shown that regular exercise is associated with a better quality of life and is a significant stress reducer!

Here’s how to add exercise into your daily routines;
1️⃣- Morning COFFEE/TEA- While waiting for your coffee to brew or tea to steep, take a moment for yourself because you deserve it 😉! Close your eyes and just breathe 🧘🏽♂️ for a full minute and think about slowing down. Too often, the moment we wake up we immediately think GO GO GO. Another thing you can do while waiting for your morning beverage is to add some body-weight squats in the kitchen!
2️⃣- When you’ve finally settled into your workstation 🚉, alternate between standing and sitting! (Another plug for squats). If you have a stand-up desk, take this moment to practice your balance by standing on one leg while typing or reading. This is a great opportunity to give more stimulus to your body and nervous system. It is also a great mindful awareness tool for feeling your body and seeing what it is capable of! YOU ARE RESILIENT!
3️⃣- House Chores- Vacuuming: When you’re vacuuming your home 🏠, think about adding in some curtsy lunges or side lunges in your home. Your neighbours may think you’re practicing your dance routine for the winter ball and that’s totally awesome! Keep at it, be their motivation to move against all odds.
4️⃣- Doing Laundry- treat the laundry basket as a weight! Do some squats, single-leg RDL’s or lunges! Better yet, carry it in front of you and walk around your home!
5️⃣- Motherhood- Entertain your baby by squatting them, deadlifting with them close to your chest or even do some baby overhead presses. They will be happy and cheery while you get a good workout 😉 Double whammy!
