Dr. Leah Gunning Francis, Associate Dean for Contextual Education and Assistant Professor of Christian Education at Eden Theological Seminary and a PhD graduate of Garrett-Evangelical, presented the first lecture in the 2015-2016 Public Theology Lecture Series. Dr. Francis interviewed more than two dozen St. Louis faith leaders and young activists who were actively engaged in the aftermath of the shooting death of Michael Brown in August 2014. She has collected their stories of courage and hope that contain seeds of possibilities that if nurtured, can serve us well into the future.
Sponsored by the Office of the President and the Center for the Church and the Black Experience, celebrating 45 years of preparing "leaders among leaders," the Public Theology Lecture Series will help the Garrett-Evangelical community understand more about the intersection of the theological perspectives and values as they perform service in the public arena for the well being of all persons and creation.
