As rapidly rising global temperatures push Antarctica's sea ice to record lows, it's threatening the existence of the continent's most iconic species -- emperor penguins. Four out of five colonies are believed to have lost their chicks last year due to disappearing sea ice in the Bellingshausen Sea region. It's estimated up to 10,000 birds have died. Emperor penguins rely on stable sea ice attached to land for nesting and raising their young.
