The Interreg MED Renewable Energy Community took part in the EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) 2021 with a Sustainable Energy Day event on renewable energy communities (RECs) as catalysts for the energy transition in the Mediterranean.
RECs have multiple benefits, from reducing energy poverty to bringing together neighbours and creating a sense of belonging. These energy communities are essential for the green energy transition, and to reach the European Union’s goals of climate neutrality set out in the EU Green Deal; yet, what is needed to establish these networks and ensure that they reach their full potential?
Watch the video to discover the experiences and lessons learnt shared by three representatives from RECs within the Interreg MED Renewable Energy’s ETU Initiative. You will also learn more about the legislative framework and the importance of including RECs in energy policy across the EU to facilitate their establishment and support the green energy transition with Stavroula Pappa – Policy Expert at REScoop.eu –, and Achille Hannoset – Policy Officer at DG ENER (EU Commission) –.
