Renowned French farceur Georges Feydeau’s early 1886 comedy A Tailor for Ladies gets a rare London outing in a new modern adaptation performed by an international ensemble cast at the Cockpit Theatre.
Dr Moulineaux has a little pickle. He has spent the night out meeting his mistress and his wife has found his empty bed!
Luckily, he’s an incredible deceiver. But perhaps after disguising himself as a dressmaker and hurtling down into a web of lies, the doctor might have gone too far this time.
Directed by Lee James Broadwood, A Tailor for Ladies is a naughty and comedic French farce translated by Penny Tomai and adapted by Tomai and Broadwood from Georges Feydeau‘s original text.
Extravagant and camp, it presents twentieth-century high-class society in its most self-indulgent and frivolous form.
All performances are performed in English and include English subtitles, with an additional set of subtitles available in one other language per day, from French, Greek, Italian, Polish and Spanish. The comedy is produced by Broadmai Productions and presented by Medley Theatre Company.
Following the 5.30pm performance on Sunday 12 March 2023, Terri Paddock chaired a post-show talk with (from l-r) cast members Dean Mantos, Kit Nichols and Val Marciano, producer William Nelson, director and co-adapter Lee James Broadwood, translator, co-adapter and cast member Penny Tomai, and cast members Juan Jose Galeano Paraja, Massimo Stella, Amir Ebrahim, Fabrizio Tullio, Su-Lyn Chow-Seegolam and Giulia Frani.
A Tailor for Ladies continues at the Cockpit Theatre until 19 March 2023.
