Time now for a look through the global headlines we′re following this Monday morning. For that, we turn to Eunice Kim, standing by at the NewsCenter. Good morning, Eunice.
Hello, Mark. We begin with some gruesome news this morning. The group, Islamic State, has released yet another video it has claimed shows a beheaded American hostage.
26-year-old aid worker Peter Kassig had been featured in a previous execution video... warning of his coming demise.
But in the latest 15-minute clip published online on Sunday... it did not show him in a jumpsuit or show the last moments leading to his death.
It showed a decapitated head at the feet of a masked man, identifying him as Kassig, in a British accent. Its lower production quality, for instance - the use of just one camera - also suggested a rushed project of a group on the run.
The video also showed a mass beheading of 18 Syrian troops.
Kassig was a former soldier,.. who returned to the region to assist Syrian refugees through his aid group. The Muslim convert... who was also known as Abdul-Rahman Kassig... was captured by militants in Syria last October.
The White House confirmed the video as that of Kassig just about an hour ago, as U.S. President Barack Obama offered his "prayers and condolences" for those grieving his loss.
