Mars Valles Marineris is the largest known canyon in the solar system. It comprises of multitude canyons that span across the south Martian equator. With a length of over 4,000 km, Valles Marineris is 10 times longer than the USA Grand Canyon!!

Tectonic activity that occurred billions of years ago affected the mars crust causing trapped water ice to melt and escape to the surface and as a result vast regions collapsed forming large canyons (termed chasma) with complex and distinct geological features.
