For their 100th anniversary, British Airways is re-painting several of its aircraft into the paint schemes of former airlines that were merged with or taken over to create today's British Airways. BOAC, the British Overseas Airways Corporation, is the first to get remembered with several others coming in the near future. Personally, I'd love to see a Landor-themed Boeing 747-400, how about you? Let me know in the comments and Express your thought on this heritage special paint scheme.
British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) was the British state-owned airline created in 1939 by the merger of Imperial Airways and British Airways Ltd. A 1971 Act of Parliament merged BOAC and BEA (British European Airways), effective 31 March 1974, forming today's British Airways.
British Airways (BA) today is the flag carrier and the largest airline in the United Kingdom based on fleet size, or the second largest, behind easyJet, when measured by passengers carried, with its main hub at London Heathrow Airport. Its preeminence highlights the reach of the country's influence as many of its destinations in several regions were historically part of the British Empire.
British Airways is a founding member of the Oneworld airline alliance, along with American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Qantas, and the now defunct Canadian Airlines. The alliance has since grown to become the third largest, after SkyTeam and Star Alliance.
