Nine soldiers of the Uganda People’s Defence Force soldiers serving under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) have been imprisoned for misconduct. The soldiers were found guilty of pursuing personal interest and endangering the operational efficiency of the UPDF. They are part of a group implicated in a fuel racket that was busted by AMISOM officials in June this year. The UPDF Divisional Court Martial chaired by Brig Gen Dick Olum, sitting in Mogadishu, handed down sentences ranging from one to three years, to be served in Luzira prison. Three of the soldiers have also been dismissed from the army, which means that they will not receive any benefits
