It is common Practice to mark a queen with a colour dot. (or glue a number on to their backs), The one marked here is a 2020 queen (Blue Dot)

There are several benefits from this
1. Each colour dot represent a year
2. The Queen is easier to spot
3. Sometimes it helps to identify if a hive has swarmed, if the marked queen is not in the hive anymore
4. All of the above when catching a swarm.

Queen Colour Scheme:
Colour -- Year ending in
White -- 1 or 6
Yellow -- 2 or 7
Red -- 3 or 8
Green -- 4 or 9
Blue -- 5 or 0
