Tioman Island in Malaysia is known for its rich biodiversity and beautiful coral reefs. This is threatened by a proposal to construct a new, larger airport on the island right by the villages. Tioman Island already has an airport. This new airport will be built on reclaimed land and involves cutting hills, deforestation and destroying coral reefs. The construction is estimated to be going on for 7 years, and this will significantly affect the livelihoods of the villagers.
We stand with the locals and oppose the construction of this new airport.
