Muzaffarabad is known as a base camp for beautiful valleys in the world like Neelum Valley, Leepa Valley, Jhelum Valley, Pir Chinasi, Baboon Valley and other best tourist spots in Pakistan. In addition to this Muzaffarabad is a historical, cultural, tourism and central city of Kashmir which is also called base camp for the tourists having historical buildings like red fort that is also called Neelum Qila or Lal Qilla, Black fort, Sayein Sakhi Saheli Sarkar Tomb, KH Khurshid Tomb and Mausoleum, Lohar Gali, Shaheed Gali, Patika, Garhi Dupatta, Langarpura, Makra Mountain, Barah Dari of Ranbir Singh, Machiara National Park, Pir Hassimar, Pir Chinasi, Subri Lake, Danna and many historical bridges as well.

Government established a department in Muzaffarabad to help out people to monitor different welfare projects named as ERRA.

Chakri Behk was also the old name of Muzaffarabad before Sultan Muzaffar Khan.
Present name of Muzaffarabad is due to Bomba Sultan Muzaffar Khan who ruled Kashmir and completed construction of Red fort in 1657.
Construction of red fort of Muzaffarabad was started in the reign of Chak empire on Kashmir to avoid the attacks from Mughal King Akbar.
Mughals conquered Kashmir and then Durrani ruled the area and then Sikh came into power.
After Anglo Sikh war, Sikh were defeated by British Army and Kashmir was given in the custody of Dogra Raja Gulab Singh and Raja Ranbir Singh.
Ranbir Singh constructed the famous Baradari of Muzaffarabad on Jhelum River.
In 1948 Pakistan India War, Pakistani forces captured the 1 third area of Kashmir and established a free state of Kashmir with the name of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Muzaffarabad as a capital city of this state.
