We try the official bike tour 650, "Ziteil Bike" by SchweizMobil.ch. We start from Salouf above Savognin towards Maiensäss Munter. The first climb of 700 vertical meters is easily managed on a paved alpine road.
At Munter, the beautiful ascent is over and the last 500 meters of altitude gain become a challenge on a gravel track. Flat stretches alternate with hard, steep sections. Finally we reach the Ziteil Church, the highest point of the tour and also the highest pilgrimage site in Europe.
From here, a truly pleasurable downhill ride awaits us: the first 100 vertical meters are bumpy across open terrain, but then it's smooth riding on a beautiful flow trail down to the huts of Cre digl Lai.
This is where the second, more complicated part of the descent begins. In the forest, a seemingly endless combination of technical trail sections, counter climbs, pushing sections, passages on forest roads and sometimes easily overlooked junctions follows. At the end we come out again in Salouf and roll the last kilometer back to the village.
