The Soviet War Memorial is one of several war memorials in Berlin erected in 1945, within a few months of the capture of the city, in memory of the 300,000 Russian soldiers who did not survive the battle of Berlin. The tanks which are placed on the left and the right of the memorial were supposedly the first to enter Berlin.
2,500 Russian soldiers are buried behind the memorial.
