After moving to Nashville, Barbara signed with Columbia Records in 1969 and found success with hits like "I've Been Loving You Too Long" and "The Midnight Oil." Her major breakthrough came after signing with ABC/Dot in 1975, scoring her first Billboard number one with "Sleeping Single in a Double Bed."
Barbara's popularity extended to television, starring in "Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters" on NBC in 1980. She also appeared on shows like "Touched by an Angel" and "Walker, Texas Ranger." In 1990, she wrote her autobiography, "Get to the Heart: My Story," which became a New York Times bestseller.
In 1984, at the peak of her career, Barbara was involved in a severe car accident, sustaining multiple fractures and a concussion. After a year and a half of rehabilitation, she made a remarkable recovery and returned to performing.
