- Matt and I are both longtime fans of the Smashing Pumpkins and this is the 3rd one of theirs that I’ve done at Echo Lake Studios.
- “Gish” is the debut studio album by American alternative rock band the Smashing Pumpkins, released on May 28, 1991 through Caroline Records. Frontman Billy Corgan has variously described Gish as a "very spiritual album" and "an album about spiritual ascension".[7] [source- Wikipedia]
Listed by Rolling Stone magazine as the #18 best Smashing Pumpkins song, they wrote:
18. ‘Rhinoceros’
"Rhinoceros" is the jewel of the Gish era, an expansive psychedelic rocker that gracefully transitions from a delicate, feminine tone to a colossal riff at its climax.
This is one of the few songs from Gish that has been performed consistently throughout the band's career.
- Much debate and controversy over what the song is about and why it’s named Rhinoceros and only Billy Corgan “knows”. It’s my favorite song on the album but at first I thought it might be a boring song to play until the midway point. However, so much texture that drummer Jimmy Chamberlain brings into the sound with the hihat patterns, fluttering the kick pedal and timings on the snare during the quiet parts. Not easy to play!
