Connor: Hey everybody. This is Connor, here at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Universal Trailer Brake Control Kit here for our 2020 Hyundai Palisade. So this kit here, it's going to be an excellent option for any vehicle in order to convert the 4-Way to a 7-Way trailer connector. Now, if you're wondering why you may need a 7-Way trailer connector, the reason for this is, most of your larger trailers, or even some of the medium and smaller ones are going to have a 7-Way trailer connector, because they have electric brakes. Therefore, we need an extra circuit, aside from just the standard 4 pin in order to activate these electric brakes.
This kit in particular, is going to pair perfectly with any wired brake controller. So our CURT Spectrum brake controller here, it's going to be an excellent option for our vehicle. The main reason I feel this is, is because it's going to have a super, super clean installation. As we can see here, the only thing we're going to have mounted on our dash is the actual control knob, which will have these nice illuminating lights that you can change the colors in the settings. So it's going to offer a very clean factory finish if you will. We've actually went ahead and mounted it here on our fuse panel cover.
And the reason for this is, if we do decide to remove the brake controller, we could replace this panel and have a complete factory interior dash. We don't have to worry about any remaining holes in our dash here. So the Spectrum here is known as a proportional brake controller. And essentially what this means is, it's going to activate the brakes on our trailer in relation to the breaking in our tow vehicle. So that's going to give us the best stopping power for our trailer. We're not going to have a disconnect between the trailer and tow vehicle when we are breaking with our trailer.
So in regards to installation, this is definitely going to be something you can install at home by yourself. Now, depending on what vehicle you're installing it on, our Palisade here didn't come with any trailer brake wiring provisions. So we had to go ahead and run those, but it's not much of a chore at all. So now that we've gone over some of the benefits and features, let's jump right into installation and show you how it's done. So the first step of our installation here, we need to find a place to mount our 7-Pole mounting bracket.
Now, we need this to be at the rear of the vehicle and the more accessible it is, the better off we're going to be.So depending on what hitch you have, I believe most of them for this vehicle are all going to be hidden, which means we're not going to have a cross tube here to be able to just clamp our no-drill 7-Pole mounting bracket onto. So what we need to do is, I've already went ahead and bent this up, but we're going to be using a long 7-Way no-drill mounting bracket here that we sell at etrailer.com. We're going to be using this, and all we did here, we just made a slight 90 degree bend. Normally that's flat out, so we just went ahead and bent this a little bit, because I'll show you what we're going to do.We're going to go ahead and take this curved edges, we're going to slide that up behind the trailer hitch in front of the spare tire, and then once we use our band clamp, it's going to sit about right, like so. So then we're going to be able to attach our 7-Way mounting bracket to this. As you can see, that's going to be the perfect location in order to be able to plug in our trailer each time. So now that we have our no-drill mounting bracket installed, we can go ahead and attach the metal 7-Way that came with our kit here. Now we can go ahead and take our 7-Way here. We're going to feed these two ends through the center of our trailer connector like so, and then we can go ahead and mount this up using the bolts and nuts that come our kit here. So now we can take our 4-Way here, just go ahead and slide it in from the grooves in the connector, a little slot we have in our 7-Way. So, now we can go ahead and make our connection here with our 4-Pole. We just installed ours, so we're going to go ahead and make these two together now. Now, once we have our 4-Ways attached, what I'm going to be doing is, I'm just going to take some electrical tape he
